In a recently unearthed video, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stumbled through a speech while slurring her words, which led many to wonder if she was drunk while making her remarks. When a clip of the incident was posted on social media, users pounced on the Democrat for her unprofessionalism and begged her to retire.

For context, clips like this one have fueled widespread rumors about Pelosi’s mental competence. Even now, several years later, Pelosi is still a major player in DC politics despite her evident decline. Other critics have wondered if the California Democrat’s rumored drinking problem could be causing her speaking issues.

In any case, the clip, which conservative influencer Amber Duke posted on July 26, 2018, started a massive social media firestorm. During her speech Pelosi muttered, “In addition, instead of enabling the secretary of HHS to negotiate for lower pruger [sic] — prescription drug prices.” Shortly afterwards, she said, “trallion dollars” instead of “trillion dollars.”

Later in the same speech, the Democrat stuttered through the word “disgraceful,” and then again with “presents.” She fumbled, saying, “When the president p-p-p-presents himself,” as onlookers cringed in embarrassment.

In the comments under the post, conservatives mocked Pelosi for her inability to speak. One such comment said, “Shes a mess. She should retire. But it is way harder to speak in front of people all day as these politicians do than it looks. Shes losing her marbles or taking some sort of horse tranquilizer.” Another added, “Something has gone drastically wrong with Pelosi’s programming over the last few months.” Agreeing, one of the replies declared, “WOW. But not the first time she has had trouble speaking. There were other occasions where she stumbles. Masybe she should just retire with dignity.”

Building on this point, one of the comments advocated for new laws to fix this issue, saying, “Without term limits for congress, this is what you get. Bless her heart. she should be in a nice assisted living home, along with many of her older congressmen.” Another joked, “It’s pretty obvious she is on more medication than the entire DNC combined.”

Many of the comments speculated about Pelosi’s rumored substance abuse issues. One of the replies said, “I’ve heard from highly placed anonymous sources that Nancy has been hitting the sauce. Isn’t it sad when people who appear to have everything going for them self destruct?” Agreeing, another user said, “Something is wrong, either a TIA, dementia, alcohol or drugs… As much as I dislike this person there is something wrong here.” A similar reply stated, “This is the third video I’ve seen of Pelosi slurring. Who will drag her off to rehab?”

Rounding out the comments, one social media user blasted the democrats for their shameless corruption, saying, “Let’s face it – these #Dems are not for the American people. They only want their piggy banks filled at our expense and their willing to sacrifice you and I to do it. WHO WANTS THAT? I STAND WITH TRUMP & OUR AMERICAN FLAG. HOW ABOUT YOU? #MAGA #tcot.”
