In a controversial Senate appearance, Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer melted down about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and implied that the department would cut funding to Social Security or the Postal Service. When a clip of his whining went viral, conservatives pounced on the Democrat and mocked him for his immaturity.

For context, in one of his earliest executive orders, President Donald Trump mandated DOGE to eliminate wasteful spending and fraud within the federal government. While DOGE has made several high-profile fraud busts, Democrats have complained constantly about it during the opening months of Trump’s presidency.

In any case, Schumer’s remarks were published to X by prominent conservative podcaster Benny Johnson on February 3, 2025. In the embarrassing segment, Schumer said, “Also, know this is just the beginning. If DOGE attacks USAID today, then you can be sure they’ll move on to another target tomorrow. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be the Postal Service or the IRS, or even the Social Security Administration. They could be next, or maybe our national security agencies.”

In the comments under Johnson’s post, conservatives mocked Chuck Schumer for his melodramatic rhetoric and lack of composure. One of the comments said, “Schumer’s real fear isn’t government shutdowns—it’s losing control. For decades, Democrats have relied on these agencies as political enforcers, protecting their allies while crushing their opponents.”

Continuing, the same commenter added, “Now, the game is changing. If government agencies can be held accountable, if their abuse of power can be stopped, if corruption can finally be dismantled—then yes, let them fall one by one. That’s not a threat to America. That’s a long-overdue correction.”

Rounding out the comments, users questioned why Schumer feared accountability. One such comment said, “It appears Democrats and the Deep State are more concerned about Elon Musk exposing their Corruption than the Corruption itself. THANK YOU, Elon!!” Other replies echoed this sentiment, saying, “Swampy Schumer, do you not get that we want that? Tear it down, open the books. We want to see how the sausage is made and know where OUR tax dollars are going. Most of us don’t want our taxes leaving the US.”

Unsurprisingly, Chuck Schumer has made several controversial public statements about DOGE. As we reported, he said, “There is wasteful spending in government that needs to be cut… Of course, there’s some wasteful spending, but you don’t use a meat ax and cut everything. We need to look at each program.”

Still not done, he added, “We need to go through Congress and see what’s wasteful and move to eliminate it, and what’s very not wasteful but very much needed. I’ll give you one example. They went after community health centers in Medicaid.”

Concluding his remarks with more complaints, he said. “They’re among the most efficient producers of health care we have yet. They tried to eliminate them. It makes no sense. They’re just using a meat ax and cutting everything, including many things that American families need, want, and approve of.”
