Rep. LaMonic McIver (D-NJ) recently vowed to “shut down the city” amid what she described as a “war” against the Trump administration. As President Donald Trump has stepped back into office, Democratic leaders have begun offering increasingly inflammatory rhetoric, encouraging supporters to take drastic measures to oppose the current administration.
McIver’s comments came at a public protest alongside various other congressional Democrats in Washington, D.C., slamming Elon Musk’s influence in the federal government. Musk has sparked backlash from the left amid his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which recently moved to shut down the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
“We will not take this!” McIver shouted into the microphone. “We will fight back! And god******, shut down the city!” The New Jersey Democrat complained that Musk had earned access to the Treasury Department through his extensive campaign contributions before exclaiming, “We are at war!” The crowd cheered as McIver bashed Musk.
According to recent reports, several federal employee unions have accused the Treasury Department of granting Musk unlawful access to sensitive information. “In a lawsuit filed Monday, lawyers acting for the Alliance for Retired Americans, the American Federation of Government Employees, and the Service Employees International Union said Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, violated federal law when he shared the department’s data with DOGE,” the suit said.
Lawyers further claimed in the lawsuit, “Federal laws protect sensitive personal and financial information from improper disclosure and misuse, including by barring disclosure to individuals who lack a lawful and legitimate need for it. In his first week as Treasury Secretary, defendant Bessent violated these restrictions.”
However, President Donald Trump has maintained that he only granted Musk access to the Treasury Department information to assist in identifying wasteful government spending. “He’s got access only to letting people go that he thinks are no good, if we agree with him. And it’s only if we agree with him,” the president explained. “Elon can’t do and won’t do anything without our approval, and we will give him the approval where appropriate.”
The American Tribune recently reported other remarks from Democratic lawmakers at the protest that have been described as “unhinged,” violent rhetoric. The event was attended by congressmen and congresswomen such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and others,
Watch McIver below:
Rep. Pressley outright called Musk a Nazi, stating, “Elon Musk is a Nazi nepo baby, a godless lawless billionaire, who no one elected.” She added, “Elon, this is the American people. This is not your trashy Cybertruck that you can just dismantle, pick apart, and sell the pieces of.” Suggesting liberal activism will spill onto the “streets,” before stating, “We will see you in the court, in Congress, in the streets.”
Sen. Warren claimed, “Elon Musk is seizing the power that belongs to the American people.” She emphasized, “We are here to fight back.” Rep. Crockett offered volatile remarks, stating, “We are gonna be in your face, we are gonna be on your a–es, and we are going to make sure you understand what democracy looks like, and this ain’t it.”
