Astonishing the press and sending the internet into a frenzy, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Elon Musk and the DOGE team discovered a horrible form of wasteful and fraudulent government spending, with Leavitt going on to clarify that she wanted to leave some details vague for the time being and reserve the full reveal to be made by President Trump.

For context, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, began its mission of identifying and rooting out government waste and fraud back in January of 2025. Since then, DOGE’s work has led to major overhauls in dozens of federal agencies, with the Musk-led department reporting billions of dollars saved.

As DOGE started digging, it reportedly came across something “horrible,” as President Trump announced in an April 4 Fox News interview, where he acknowledged that DOGE had made a game-changing discovery. The president described DOGE’s findings with a palpable weightiness, concluding, “They found something today that’s horrible. It’s horrible. You’ll find out very soon.”

Following up in a press conference held on April 8, 2025, Karoline Leavitt told a crowd of journalists that something major had come to light thanks to DOGE. Leavitt said, “There has been a discovery. I hate to leave you hanging on a cliff, but I don’t want to get ahead of the president on that. But I can confirm that there has been a discovery. It’s just not quite yet ready for release.”

In response to the recent revelations from the White House, many conservatives have shown their support for DOGE’s work on X (formerly Twitter), calling for more to be done to stop the bureaucratic left’s wastefulness. One X user, @junogsp7, wrote, “DOGe (sic) keeps discovering plenty of blatant fraud, but are any indictments forthcoming? Sure hope so!”

More support was shown for DOGE on X by user @ohio_buckeye_us, who expressed hopes that the department’s work will lead to corrupt government officials being arrested, writing, “Maybe the first shocking arrest is coming soon. I hope that day arrives quickly. Only then will we all feel justice is served.”

Building on that point, other commentators speculated on Trump’s mysterious statements. One such comment read, “We were talking about this last night. It’s hard to believe it can be worse than what they’ve already found. All I can think of that’s worse is perhaps a link to the assass*nation attempts.”

In the same Fox News interview as the one in which he commented on DOGE finding something horrible, President Trump confirmed that Mr. Musk will be heading up DOGE for “as long as possible,” clarifying that Musk may soon have to return to his responsibilities as a business owner. In addition, President Trump emphatically praised Mr. Musk, saying, “I think Elon’s great, but he also has a company to run —or a number of companies to run. He can do this — he finds the time — he loves the country, that’s why he does it.”
